Testing sweet waters

Vicky Friedman, or Penny Pingleton, the character she played in the musical Hairspray last year, spends most of her time choreographing, dancing, singing and acting.

She is an all-round performer who is currently rehearsing for Beautiful Creatures by Ed Jordan and Alan Glass.

Acting is an extremely physical work and spending hours rehearsing and choreographing children's shows can be pretty dehydrating.

We asked Friedman to test a variety of flavoured waters and tell us which would be her choice of refreshment.

"I'm not usually a flavoured water drinker," she said. "I prefer to drink still, unflavoured water, so I'm probably the right person to speak to because I don't have any tried and tested favourites."

First Friedman tried the Clicks Pear and Litchi: "Hmm, this isn't bad at all. It's light and refreshing and has a slight lemony flavour that is not too overpowering." she found the packaging pretty clinical and said that it would not attract her.

"The Woolworths packaging is definitely the best," she said. "It is more sophisticated and you can see that more thought has gone into the design."

Friedman found the water to be bitter and said that it was far too strong. The Aquelle water had a strong and sweet melony taste and smell. "It's too sweet and the flavour is too artificial," she said. "I couldn't get through a whole bottle . It's more like a cold drink than water."

Bonaqua's range of waters come in the same packaging as their mineral waters. Friedman thought the apple mint flavour was "not bad".

"It has nice, fine bubbles which makes it taste a bit better since I don't normally go for carbonated drinks."

Lastly, she tried the new flavoured water on the block, Glaceau Vitamin Water. Each flavour has a colour.

"This water is sweet, but the flavours actually taste less artificial than all the other brands. Maybe it's because there aren't any bubbles."
