Ananias Mathe spared one of his victims from rape because she did not have condoms, the Johannesburg high court heard yesterday.

Testifying in camera, Chamiane Smith (not her real name) told the court how she was awoken by someone touching her private parts in the early hours of September 19 2004, while she was sleeping on a couch.

"I thought it was my boyfriend. I touched his arm and realised it was not him because his arm was thinner and I asked who he was," she said. She said she asked the man to give her time.

"He sat back and gave me a few seconds. He then asked if I had condoms. I said I did not have condoms," she said.

She said Mathe then robbed her of her cellphone before leaving. The trial continues today.
