The guilty verdict pronounced on Tuesday in the trial of reggae icon Lucky Dube's killers is one but last step towards bringing closure for his family and thousands of fans who were jarred by the coldblooded murder.

Nothing short of lengthy sentences will underscore the society's outrage at the callous actions of the three killers who gunned down Dube in a botched hijack attempt outside his brother's house in Rosettenville in October 2007.

Hijackers operate in syndicates headed by ringleaders who remain faceless to avoid detection. It is such a pity that both the kingpin and the person who placed the order for Dube's car may never face prosecution for their part in the botched hijack.
