Geda, however, said it stood by the gist of its message. "Neither the author nor Geda intended to embarrass, insult or impair Mr Bloom's dignity in any manner whatsoever," said spokesperson Barba Gaoganediwe.
"This unfortunate choice of diction was aimed at setting the record straight ... there is no substance to the insinuations of wrongdoing ... with reference to Dr Carl Niehaus, in the media."
Geda issued a media release on February 23 titled "Lies, desist and total ignorance of facts, the DA's modus operandi". In the statement, the agency referred to Bloom as an "iritic", "somebody who has a history of harvesting on his own lies". Yesterday Geda retracted this label. The agency said, however, it stood by its claim that Bloom's allegation that Niehaus was given a lavish farewell party was false.
"While the aforesaid retraction is sincere and genuine, the nub of what was meant to be conveyed ... remains."
It was reported that Niehaus allegedly wrote a fraudulent letter and forged signatures in an attempt to secure a loan from a businessman while working for Geda. - Sapa
