Basketball to hit rural areas

Basketball South Africa has resolved to stage future tournaments in rural parts of the country.

Malumbete Ralethe, BSA's deputy president, said the good turn-out during their recent national championships at Ngoako Ramatlhodi Indoor Sports Centre in Seshego, Limpopo, had prompted them to host their next championships in Northern Cape, Mpumalanga and North West.

"The Limpopo edition was well organised and such standards need to be maintained by other provinces and if possible pushed to the next level. There were signs of improvement from all the provinces and credit should go to the provincial selectors," Ralethe said yesterday.

"We selected the national Under-16 teams for boys and girls that will represent the country internationally in future. We are confident that these youngsters' talent will be nurtured through the support of the department of sports and recreation," he said.
