The Oasis of Life Family Church in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, yesterday hosted the president of Cope, Mosiuoa Lekota, and other senior party members.

This was Lekota's second visit to the church in just under 72 hours.

On Friday morning Lekota attended a prayer meeting organised by congregants who are also Cope members.

In his brief address to the congregation Lekota said he and members of his party were no strangers to the church, as most of them were brought up in a church environment.

"We are no strangers to the church as we grew up in it," he said.

Lekota urged the congregation to vote for the right party during the forthcoming general elections.

"The greatest democrat once said do unto others as you would them do unto you."

Lekota further asked church members and others to allow other people the right to choose freely who they wanted to vote for during the April 22 elections.

In welcoming Lekota and his entourage to Oasis, pastor Simon Montle emphasised that the church would remain apolitical. He said the church, under the leadership of Apostle Isaac Sithole, aims to have an impact not only on communities but also on politicians.

"As a church that does not take sides, but is God-based, we welcome Mosiuoa "Terror" Lekota in our midst," Montle said.

Also present at the service was musical icon Tshepo Tshola, who together with trumpeter Hugh Masekela are at the forefront of the Musicians and Artists Assistance Programme of South Africa a body that helps musicians and artists facing problems of drug and substance abuse.
