Literary legends Don Mattera and Keorapetse Kgositsile will share the stage at a public lecture to take place on Wednesday at the National Library of South Africa in Pretoria.
They will be involved in a discussion that addresses issues affecting youth growing up in a democratic state and draw parallels between literature and national identity.
As part of its mandate to promote social cohesion, the department of arts and culture will conduct a series of lectures on literature-related topics across the country.
The two literary icons, who are recipients of the Presidential Order of Ikhamanga for their contribution to literature, will also be taking questions from the audience.
Sandile Ngidi, a former journalist and editor of the Baoabab Literary Journal, will conduct the discussions.
A recipient of several poetry awards, Kgositsile has taught literature and creative writing at a number of universities in the US and in Africa.
It is his ability to capture in lyrical poetry his deepest emotions that has earned him many accolades.
Mattera's work speaks for itself. The renowned poet, writer, social and political leader and social activist, was awarded his PhD in Literature at the University of Natal, Durban.
Mattera has published collections of short stories, children's stories and plays as well as the renowned Azanian Love Song. He was awarded the Steve Biko Prize for his autobiography, Memory is the Weapon.
He has also won several international literary and humanitarian awards in the course of outstanding career.
