The Independent Complaints Directorate has rejected suggestions that it had offered a R3million settlement to its suspended KwaZulu-Natal head Tabisa Ralo.

Ralo was suspended last month, which sparked a controversy when staff members demanded that she be reinstated.

A disciplinary hearing to probe fraud allegations against Ralo took a twist last Tuesday when the presiding officer in the matter was asked to step down. Zarina Walele allegedly offered Ralo a settlement to leave the ICD quietly.

However, the ICD has denied the allegations, calling them "a blatant lie".

ICD spokesperson Dikeledi Phiri said they did not offer Ralo any settlement.

Phiri said Ralo approached Walele on Monday with the proposition.

"And when this was turned down by the ICD, she accused the chairperson of being biased and asked her to recuse herself."

Ralo's attorney, Naren Sangham, said the ICD has no evidence that his client made a settlement proposition.

"My client only asked that they should part ways amicably after discovering that there was political interference in the matter," he said.

The hearing will be held on April 21 under a new presiding officer.
