The soccer tribe is a fickle bunch that is also prone to revelry and too high expectations when a cold assessment is necessary.

South Africans are not different, especially when it comes to our beloved Bafana Bafana.

Until Chile skinned us in Polokwane in January, Bafana were "world beaters" courtesy of five wins against the likes of of Malawi. Back on the winning trail against Norway and we think we are on course to hit the skies in the Confederation and World Cups.

We caution against over-optimism. Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke was blunt after we beat Norway: "South Africa is not ready."

Let us support The Boys and encourage them. But please don't put them under undue pressure of hefty expectations.
