Pupils go on a three-week long school break today.

Schools in Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West are closing for the Easter holidays.

Schools in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal will close on April 3.

Gauteng education MEC Angie Motshekga said: "It was a good term. We have met most of our commitments."

South African Democratic Teachers Union's regional secretary Ronald Nyathi said: "The term was good because teachers are in high spirits, especially in Soweto where schools performed well in their matric results."

He said secondary teachers were now more at ease "because they were getting into grasp with the new curriculum".
