Excellentia Mofokeng is a 20-year-old actress whose role requires her to strip naked in Paul Grootboom's Foreplay, currently running at the State Theatre in Pretoria.

She says if a similar role is offered to her in future, she will also go for it.

The first-time actress, who plays the role of prostitute Leorcadia, says the only person who shouldn't watch her on stage is her boyfriend.

"Before I took this role, I was told that at some stage I would be required to strip naked, and I was comfortable with it.

"However, at the opening of the show when I had to play to the crowd, I was nervous. But I was prepared for the role because the director told me that I should not concentrate on the audience but on the role.

"They said I must not focus on people who know me because that would distract me.

"I told my boyfriend that he must not come to watch the play. My mother knows about my role and she is grateful she is not coming to watch the play as she is in Bushbuckridge, Limpopo," the actress said.

She has not yet told her father about her role.

The production is an adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler's Reigen, a production with an age restriction of 18. It is directed by Grootboom, who hit the headlines a few years ago with his sexually explicit play, Cards.

Foreplay shows a series of 10 love scenes of interconnected characters in different sexual situations.
