KwaZulu-Natal MEC for education Ina Cronjé has challenged Cope in the province to supply her department with evidence that teachers are taking leave to campaign for the ANC.

Cronjé was responding to claims by Cope that some teachers in the province had taken leave to campaign for the ANC.

"According to our records, not even a single teacher had taken leave to participate in an election campaign."

She said the department was willing to institute an investigation if Cope can supply them with evidence of their allegations.

Cope provincial spokesperson Siyanda Mhlongo yesterday told Sowetan that they received reports from their Cope members within the South African Democratic Teachers Union .

Mhlongo said he had proof from the Sadtu officials that 14 teachers took leave to attend campaigns for the ANC.
