The on-going saga at the South African Broadcasting Corporation has claimed its latest victim, deputy chairperson of the board Christine Qunta who resigned yesterday.
The outspoken writer, lawyer and political commentator's resignation is with effect from April 1.
The corporation yesterday confirmed Qunta's resignation through a tersely worded statement.
"The SABC has received a resignation letter from Christine Qunta.
"She has resigned from the position of director and deputy chairperson of the board and all other structures at the SABC.
"The resignation will be with effect from 1 April 2009. No reasons were given for the resignation.
"The resignation letter was forwarded to the shareholder, minister for the department of communications this morning," said the statement.
Of late, the public broadcaster has faced a barrage of criticism for its alleged wastefulness of resources and alleged nepotism in its commercial enterprise department where two senior executives are currently on indefinite leave.
Qunta has been serving her second term on the board after being appointed by former president Thabo Mbeki.
Joe Makhafola, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Communications Ivy Matsepe-Cassaburi, confirmed the minister had received Qunta's resignation letter, but referred further questions to the SABC.
Qunta was not available for comment yesterday.
