Hundreds of bus commuters in Mpumalanga were left stranded yesterday as angry villagers barricaded roads in protest against new bus fares which become effective from next week.

Villagers in Lefiso said they were angered by the announcement that from March 30, North West Star Bus Company would increase its fare by 11percent. All buses using the Lefiso-Pretoria road were stopped.

The buses remained idle for the rest of the day.

Currently, a trip from Lefiso village to Pretoria is R90 and the new price fare will push this amount to about R100. - Alfred Moselakgomo
