Local is lekker!

This is the feeling of most Mamelodi Sundowns supporters who felt that a local coach will be the right man to breathe new life into the team next season.

They suggested names such as Shakes Mashaba, Trott Moloto and Pitso Mosimane.

But, it looks like it will be difficult for them to have Mosimane, who is a crucial member of the Bafana Bafana technical team for the 2010 World Cup. He is the assistant coach to Joel Santana.

There have been others who believe Ted Dumitru, appointed caretaker coach until the end of the season on Monday after the departure of Henri Michel, could be the right person to lead Sundowns next season.

Obed Baloyi, Sundowns supporters' Limpopo provincial chairperson, urged club president Patrice Motsepe to pursue Mosimane after the 2010 World Cup finals.

"I don't think there will be a foreigner who can change the fortune of Sundowns. I'm happy Ted has been appointed caretaker coach to lay a foundation for a new coach next season."

His counterpart in Free State, Jankie "Baba" Sebolao, said: "Shakes Mashaba is an ideal man for the job. We are tired of these so-called highly decorated foreign coaches who have only brought misery at Sundowns. Though Ted is good and knows Sundowns' culture, I think he should focus on development."

Meanwhile, Sundowns spokesperson Mahlatsi Mphahlele said: "Ted and Trott are busy with this matter and they will inform us as soon as they have come up with proposed names."
