The 2010 World Cup finals will present Africa with the perfect platform to once and for all prove that the continent was capable of hosting any major global event.

This is according to Willies Mchunu, a member of the KwaZulu-Natal legislature. He was speaking at an event last weekend to honour soccer legends in the area.

"The staging of the 2010 Fifa World Cup on African soil presents us with an enormous opportunity to showcase our country and continent," said Mchunu.

He also complimented the big three soccer bosses, Molefi Oliphant, Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan, for a job well done to date on the World Cup preparations.

Some of the legends honoured included Patson Banda, Cedrick Xulu, Calvin Petersen, Mlungisi Ngubane, Neil Tovey, Clive Barker, Veronica Phewa and Ian McLeod. - Sowetan Sports
