INCOMPETENT RADEBE MUST QUIT, SAYS COPE

Cope has called for the resignation of Transport Minister Jeff Radebe over the Bus Rapid Transit dispute which saw taxi drivers blockade roads and embark on a march in Johannesburg yesterday .

"Cope calls for the resignation of Radebe on grounds of incompetence and dereliction of duty," the party said.

Cope claimed yesterday's strike and a "standstill" of buses in KwaZulu-Natal were due to Radebe's failure to devise appropriate public transport policies, and the ANC's lack of will to find a solution to transport problems.

"The people deserve a safe, efficient and affordable public transport system, and Radebe has failed dismally in this regard."

The party also called for an inquiry into the Durban bus crisis. The eThekwini municipality's bus service at Remant Alton was suspended two weeks ago due to financial problems. - Sapa
