Young film-makers are being honoured for their creativity in the film industry.
The winners of M-Net's 2008 EDiT Awards were announced last week at a special event in Johannesburg.
The learner-based initiative was created to provide emerging film and television talent with genuine production opportunities in a "real world" environment.
Now in its ninth year, the project aims to give young visual storytellers a platform to showcase their work, hone their skills and enhance their portfolios.
The Emerging Dynamics in Television is open to final year and post-graduate students at tertiary institutions, as well as to individuals doing apprenticeships in content.
Helen Smit, head of local content at M-Net, believes that the project is vital for the local industry.
"EDiT has been a huge success over the last nine years and we were thoroughly impressed again this year at the quality of entries.
"It always makes us proud to see young film-makers who got their break through this initiative going on to build solid film and television careers and we're sure this year's finalists will be no exception."
The 2008 EDiT Award winners are: Best film: Men of the Number, AFDA Film School.
Best director: Mark Strydom, Men of the Number, AFDA.
Best cinematography: (shared) Dean Jates, She Asked For., City Varsity and Luke Pallet, Voice of our Forefathers, UKZN.
4. Best actor: (shared) Richard Lukunku and Sibu Gamede, Men of the Number, AFDA.
5. Best screenplay: Mark Strydom, Men of the Number, AFDA.
6. Best original soundtrack: Tiago David Correia Paulo, Sanctuary, Wits.
7. Special mention: Animation - Leigh Garakara, Voice of our Forefathers, UKZN.
Best overall project was awarded R50000 and category winners each received R10000 The prize money goes to the institution responsible for the entry.
