The beginning of a journey to stardom for Zolani "Last Born" Tete starts on Sunday.

This sensational rising star from the famed Eyethu Boxing Club fights Filipino Rexon Flores at the Orient Theatre.

Ang Pison, The Road Roller from Paranaque City in Manila, is a former WBO Intercontinental light flyweight and WBO Asia Pacific flyweight holder. The 26-year-old right hander has 19 wins, five losses and four draws.

Promoter Mzimase Mnguni, whose Eyethu Promotions will stage this 10-rounder, said his programme was to develop Tete internationally for world sanctioning bodies to recognise his ability as a fist fighter.

But Tete has already taken the first step towards fame and fortune.

This 21-year-old holds the WBF flyweight strap. He is probably the youngest "world" champion in South Africa.

Tete, who looks and fights just like the legendary Thomas "Hitman" Hearns, has flattened nine of his 10 opponents.

His last victims was Francis Miyeyusho, the Tanzanian who succumbed in two minutes and 24 seconds in the first round during Tete's second defence of the WBF belt.

Tete was scheduled to fight Simon "Cheetah" Ramoni last year, but Ramoni could not convince authorities he was in fine form and Boxing SA, acting under doctor's orders, saved his life by revoking his licence.

There was scare throughout the country when Tete allegedly suffered an epileptic fit and had convulsions last September.

He slipped into unconsciousness and was rushed to Cecilia Makiwane hospital where doctors revived him. But Tete recovered long before being matched with Ramoni.

"He did all the tests and presented medical certificates to Boxing SA, who demanded them before they could allow him back in the ring", said Mnguni whose six-fight programme on Sunday will be broadcast live by SuperSport from 2pm.
