The woman charged with looking after Madonna's adopted son David Banda has quit - amid rumours of tensions with her superstar employer.

The woman charged with looking after Madonna's adopted son David Banda has quit - amid rumours of tensions with her superstar employer.

The Australian child-care worker, known only as Angela, is believed to have been working for the pop singer in New York, taking care of three-year-old David, who was adopted from Malawi in 2006.

Angela is said to have handed in her resignation earlier this month, but was instructed to leave immediately without completing her notice period, according to the British newspaper Mail on Sunday.

The news comes after the singer recently admitted she is considering adopting another child from Malawi.

A source tells the publication: "Angela is distraught. Madonna told her the news two hours before she was due to go on her annual month-long leave.

"Angela was incredibly upset and very surprised."

Madonna is also mother to 12-year-old Lourdes and Rocco, eight. - Wenn
