A police inspector who murdered his wife at Louis Trichardt police station will know his fate next month.

Inspector Freddy Mashamba was arrested and charged with murder in May last year after he shot and killed his wife Rudzani Ramango.

Police said Mashamba, 43, fired eight shots at Ramango while she was trying to escape to the police station.

She was shot inside her car outside the police station before police could come to her rescue.

The two were living apart when Ramango, 32, was killed. Their divorce was set to be finalised.

Mashamba was attached to the Bandelierkop police station and worked for the visible policing unit.

He was found guilty by the Musina magistrate's court on Friday.

The case was postponed for sentencing on April 2 at the Polokwane high court.
