Yet another KwaZulu-Natal tertiary institution has come to a standstill.

Students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College campus are in dispute with university management over unpaid meal allowances of R1000 a month. They are also unhappy about the exclusion of students who are performing badly.

Yesterday SRC secretary Mlondi Mkhize, said the protest, which began on Wednesday, is also aimed at forcing the university to re-admit those excluded for poor results.

University dean Trevor Wills confirmed yesterday that a few students had not been paid allowances, and said this would be corrected "this week".

He said negotiations were continuing to resolve other demands .
