moriri wary of surprise

Beware the wrath of a humiliated Platinum Stars.

The warning was sounded by defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Surprise Moriri to his teammates ahead of Downs' Nedbank Cup last 16 clash with Stars at Super Stadium on Sunday.

The humbled North West side - a team that incidentally gave Moriri his professional break some years ago - shockingly let six goals through with no reply on Wednesday against a rampant Lamontville Golden Arrows.

While Moriri tried his best to be humble - pointing out the unpredictability of a cup match - fact is, with him in the area, the Stars defence better not fold as spectacularly as they did in midweek.

At the last count, the Premiership's February player of the month's partnership with Katlego Mphela had produced six goals for the Brazilians.

"No one can take advantage of the situation. Stars are wounded and they will be at their most dangerous. Right now, they want to redeem themselves and what better way to do that than at the expense of Sundowns.

"All of us want this cup to stay with us, and we realise how important this match is," said Moriri.

Not surprisingly, Moriri predicts that trouble will come from former Sundowns players.

One of these players, winger Dillon Sheppard, is still dazed after their 6-0 annihilation by Arrows. He admitted it was the biggest loss he had suffered in his career.

"We cannot go any lower, to be honest.

" What a test for our character to be confronted by Sundowns at a time when things are looking up for them.

"On Sunday, we need to just concentrate and get our heads right and compete," Sheppard said.

Kickoff is at 3pm and the game will be broadcast on SuperSport 4.

At Chatsworth Stadium, National First Division side Nathi Lions have a mammoth task when they host Ajax Cape Town, also on Sunday at 3pm.
