Four people died in an accident in Polokwane yesterday morning when a taxi and a truck collided head-on.

Police spokesperson Captain Mohlaka Mashiane said the accident happened at about 7am, about 10km from Polokwane on the N1 North to Makhado.

Mashiane said an investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing.

He said the deceased were all males. He would, however, not divulge their names and ages untile their next of kin have been informed of their deaths.

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old schoolboy was hit by a speeding car in Dorp Street in Polokwane at around the same time as the accident involving the taxi and the truck.

Mashiane said the boy was trying to cross the road when he was hit by an oncoming car.

The boy was admitted to Polokwane Hospital with serious injuries.

His identity was not yet known and police were investigating a case of culpable homicide, Mashiane said.

In another accident, a man and his wife, together with a passenger, were admitted to Polokwane Private Hospital after their car collided with another at the intersection between Thabo Mbeki and Magazane streets.

One of the drivers involved in the accident was a woman teacher at a school in Moletji, outside Seshego.

Mashiane said it was not yet known what caused the accident.

He said police were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.

He said the names of the woman driver and her husband would be released soon.
