Tears ran down the face of Botswana's vice-consul for administration, Phetogo Montsho, when she met the residents of Mohau's Orphans and Disabled Home in Roets Drive in Vosloorus.

Caregivers had brought the mentally challenged children and a few adults outside, to get a bit of sun.

Montsho, vice-consul for immigration Tirelo Balikile, and consular staffers Teddy Gaynor and Nomsa Mabuza had asked Mama Angel to take them to the home after they read about Sowetan's visit to the home. The consular staff had collected money for the Mohau home.

Mohau is housed in two homes and is the sanctuary of 20 disabled children, mostly suffering from cerebral palsy. Another 10 come to the home daily for stimulation exercises. An additional 10 orphans who attend school, some in senior grades, also live at the home.

Founder Mamohau Ntsoane said she received a call from God to help his children.

"I raised and educated my seven children. They received bursaries and are now successful," Ntsoane said.

"I prayed and asked God how I could thank Him for all my blessings and somehow he brought these children to me," she said.

Her children help out with petrol money, electricity vouchers and transport.

"My daughter Ngoana Moloto gave me her house when she married."

Montsho said that the home did not have enough beds and stoves.

"We can't fulfil all your needs, but we'll do what we can," Montsho said.
