Sexual violence violates a person's trust and feeling of safety.

Sexual violence violates a person's trust and feeling of safety.

That is why rape victims need to be thoroughly counselled to help them lead normal lives after their ordeals.

It is for this reason that we are appalled that a teacher who was arrested - and granted bail - after allegedly raping his pupil, has been allowed back at her school in Mpumalanga.

The victim's family is rightly outraged by his return.

The department of education should have suspended the teacher pending the outcome of the trial.

Allowing him back will perpetuate the dark cloud over the school and the victim, who will suffer the indignity and trauma of seeing her alleged molester daily.
