Tireless work by the police in the Vaal has led to the discovery of stolen goods valued at more than R10million.

The goods, including groceries, gas cylinders, soft drinks, liquor and TV sets were found stored inside Santa Lucia Supermarket in Kliprivier, about 100 metres away from the police station.

A 39-year-old Portuguese national was arrested for allegedly being in possession of the stolen property.

"Police followed a tip-off. Most of these goods were stolen during truck hijackings," said police spokesperson Captain Tshivhulani Tshilate.

Tshilate said the swoop happened after eight months of "thorough investigations" by the organised crime unit.

"There were three cases of theft opened by large companies in Boksburg and we had been working on them. The investigation led us to the supermarket and our members made a shocking discovery," said Tshilate.

Owners of distribution companies were at the scene to identify their stolen goods.
