Purists say fight fans are in for an extraordinary evening of boxing action at Matlosana Banquet hall in Klerksdorp next Friday night.

That is because boxing prospect of the year 2007, Chris van Heerden, and Sandra Almedia, a female boxing sensation, are on the bill.

But, it's also the quality of their opponents which makes their matches more appetising.

Van Heerden, who also holds the African Boxing Union belt, has 11 wins against a draw.

He will defend the SA welterweight belt against Welcome Ntshingila, while Almedia will fight Rita Mrwebi in the former's attempt for serious attention.

Some boxing pundits say Van Heerden, whose impressive skills are perfected by esteemed mentor Nick Durandt, could kiss the national belt goodbye.

They say the "Heat" as Van Heerden is nicknamed, has not fought quality punchers like the John Krige-trained Ntshingila.

Ntshingila has been to wars, winning some and losing others, and those include bloody slug fests with Joseph Makaringe, Peter Malinga, Lucky Lewele and Thabo Mashishi.

In his last fight on November 6 last year, Ntshingila punished Sicelo Mzobe in their six rounder, which Ntshingila won on points. That was his 16th victory against seven losses and three draws.

Other experts say those wars took a lot out of him, therefore the young and yet to be defeated Van Heerden could send him straight into the scrapheap.

These boxing matches will from part of a six-bout programme that will be presented by the Branco Sports Production.

Almedia became famous in 2007 by making her professional debut in New Zealand without Boxing SA's consent. She has two wins, two losses and a draw while according to BoxRec, Mrwebi has a loss in as many fights.
