Mzansi artistes gather in Tshwane tomorrow to pray for the nation.
The Forgive and Be Forgiven ceremony takes place at Freedom Park and is free to all South Africans to join leading artists who will be taking part.
"Each and every artist who is contributing is doing so because of the healing power of the arts," says co-convener Sibongile Khumalo.
"If you look at those who are joining this historic initiative, it's clear that this is not about a particular generation or a specific genre of music or even artists of a particular cultural background."
Among those supporting the event is internationally renowned performer Jonathan Butler.
"I believe we need to transform our thinking and move beyond the pain and walk in the power of forgiveness and healing. God is able to make all grace abound to us," says Butler.
Poet, performer, inspirational speaker and mother Gcina Mhlophe is also part of the group of artists who believe in the power of forgiveness.
"I believe in the saying that goes 'Peace on Earth begins with Peace at Home'," Mhlophe says.
"Our arts practitioners have long been part of the fight for freedom. We took it upon ourselves to become cultural ambassadors at the worst of times.
"Now when there is a crying need for our moral regeneration and restoration of peace, it goes without saying that I too wish to wholeheartedly lend my support. Peace in our lifetime is a cause worth our time and effort."
A collaborative effort to produce the theme song took place between Ringo, Tumi Molekane, Zubz and Lebo Mashile. All four are featured on the recording of the song, along with Mathapelo, Gloria Bosman, Abigail Kubheka, Siphokazi, Zwai Bala, Jessica Mbangeni andKhumalo.
The theme song is called Healing in the Land of Forgiving.
Radio personalities Lupi Ngcayisa, Vathiswa Ndara, Criselda Kananda and DJ T-bo Touch and The Naked DJ have also heeded the call.
The event starts at 5pm when representatives from various faiths perform rituals according to their beliefs in the Isivivane area of Freedom Park.
