The brouhaha surrounding the inclusion of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on the ANC candidates list for the National Assembly needs to be attended to and resolved as swiftly as possible.

The issue here is the legal interpretation of her suspended sentence after she was convicted of fraud in July 2004.

Legal experts warned that her conviction makes her ineligible for a seat in Parliament.

The Freedom Front also argues that she should be disqualified. The ANC is adamant that because she did not serve time in jail, she is eligible to be on their list.

Because of the different interpretations the matter should rather be referred to the Electoral Court for a fair and final decision.
