Imagine how frustrated you would be to receive a phone call from your bank telling you you are homeless after paying R114000 to save your house from auction?

Makwa Mofokeng, of Bethlehem, is that frustrated because the person who bought his house a day after settling his arrears wants him out of his house by no later than April 7.

Mofokeng fell into R114000 arrears but paid the amount on June 13 last year to stop the auction as the bank had advised.

But a bank employee, only known as Ms Sophia, failed to notify the legal department about the payment and that resulted in the auction of Mofokeng's house.

After realising its mistake, the bank later notified the highest bidder who bought the house that they had erred in selling him the house since Mofokeng had settled his debt.

He continued to pay his monthly instalment until two weeks ago when he was told he should vacate his house.

Mofokeng said he was told the person who bought his house successfully sued the bank for changing its minds after auctioning it.

"I am devastated, I don't know what to do. This will be a shock to my relatives who helped me to save the house from being auctioned off," he said.

Mofokeng, who is currently repaying the loan he took from his relatives, said he would need to take the matter to an appeal court to win his house back.

He said he did not want to lose his house and expected FNB to intervene since they had promised to stop the auction once he paid the arrears.

Bongolethu Futuse, the media liaison manager at FNB, is investigating the complaint.
