Former PAC president Motsoko Pheko has been rejected by his own party but he says he will not turn his back on it.
Pheko, whose name does not appear on the PAC's list of members nominated for Parliament, told Sowetan yesterday that he was not bitter and would remain loyal to his party.
"I will die a member of the PAC," he said. "There is nothing strange about my name not being on the list. I am not going to retire from politics. How do you retire from the liberation struggle?
"The liberation is not about going to Parliament. There is a lot of party work outside Parliament that must be done," said Pheko.
PAC secretary general Mfanelo Skwatsha said the party leadership had nothing to do with Pheko's omission from the list.
"PAC candidates were nominated by branches, not the leadership. If comrade Pheko's name does not appear on the list, then it means branches did not nominate him."
Pheko, who surrendered the party's presidency to Letlapa Mphahlele in 2006, had been at loggerheads with the PAC. He took the party to court after he was expelled for non-disclosure of the Robert Sobukwe Fund when he ceased to be president of the PAC.
He refused to cooperate with the PAC-appointed committee to investigate the charges against him. The court case has been dragging since.
Mphahlele, who at the time of Pheko's expulsion told the media that he was not interested in going to Parliament, leads the 2009 election list.
