An IFP Youth Brigade member who is a proponent of " ukusoma " (sex without penetration) as a way of fighting the spread of HIV-Aids was yesterday nominated as a board member of the National Youth Development Agency .

A proposal by the DA in Parliament that the IFP Youth Brigade's Maria Tshabalala become the seventh member of the agency's board was endorsed by Parliament.

Committee co-chair Lulu Johnson, a former ANC youth league president, praised Tshabalala for "repeatedly and consistently using words referring to sexual experiences and practices that had so much to do with avoiding HIV and Aids" during her interview.

Parliament also nominated Francois Slabber, a farmer turned Freedom Front Plus researcher, disabled youth of South Africa chairperson Mcebo Khumalo and business representative Innocentia Motau to the seven-member board.

The remaining three positions went to ANC Youth League national executive committee member Pholisa Makeleni, ANCYL deputy president Andile Lungisa, and the Young Communist League's national treasurer Yershen Pillay. - Anna Majavu
