Jeffrey Ntuka, who made his debut for Kaizer Chiefs against Bidvest Wits on Saturday night, is keen to make a meaningful contribution to the Amakhosi's bid for the championship this season.

The defender was snatched by Chiefs from Belgian club Westerlo during the January transfer window.

Ntuka gave a good account of himself at the centre of the defence alongside Thabang Rooi.

"I'm encouraged that Chiefs won the match in my debut and I can't wait for the next match," said Ntuka after the 2-1 win over Wits at Super Stadium.

The impressive Abia Nale and Jose Torrealba scored in each half for Amakhosi, while the Students' consolation goal was scored by Sifiso Myeni.

Ntuka, who has not played an official game for more than a season, said the support he received from his new teammates has encouraged him.

"I played my normal game and I was not under any pressure. Winning today is crucial as we are also challenging for the league title."

The win has thrown the title race wide open and Chiefs are now six points adrift of leaders and defending champions SuperSport United and three behind Orlando Pirates.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral said: "The league title is anybody's guess and you can't predict who will win it. I'm happy with our performance."

Wits coach Roger de Sa complained about referee Robert Smith's handling of the match but he gave credit to his charges for a spirited display.
