Angry parents in Lamontville yesterday booted out a teacher from the Msizi Dube Primary School, accusing her of abusing pupils.
This included making them "bark like dogs".
The alleged abuse was also meted out to pupils who did not do their homework and who came late to school
The teacher, Thandazo Zungu, yesterday opened a case of intimidation against the school.
Angry parents said they wanted Zungu to leave because their children were humiliated and her behaviour was intolerable.
"We have tabled countless complaints against the teacher's conduct at the local circuit office since 1999," said a parent who wished to remain anonymous.
"She made my child and the other children kneel on the floor for a long time. Then she ordered them to bark like dogs.
"She slapped them and called them bad names," said the parent.
At a closed meeting held at the school on Wednesday night, parents, teachers and the school governing body (SGB) took a decision to send Zungu on special leave.
They also decided to write to the provincial education department recommending her suspension.
The atmosphere at the meeting was tense and Sowetan was asked to leave.
"Most people are scared to speak out. It could become political if it is not sorted out," said an elder.
SGB spokesperson Muzi Ngomezulu said they would prefer to try and resolve the matter internally.
