Angry parents at Motupa village in Bolobedu have called for the Limpopo department of education to investigate allegations of corruption against a school principal.

The parents are accusing Ngwako Sebopetsa of financial mismanagement for paying R150000 to a contractor in Polokwane who failed to complete erecting a fence around the school.

The parents are angry that a Polokwane contractor disappeared without completing his work.

They said the money, which was used to pay for the contractor, forms part of the R400000 budget for the school from the provincial department of education.

According to a parent, who wanted to remain anonymous, the children are not safe without the fence because the school is situated next to a busy road.

He said parents have expressed concern because the contractor has abandoned the work that had started three years ago.

"Our concern is that the principal is unable to give an explanation on the whereabouts of the contractor, who disappeared with the school money," the parent said.

Parents have expressed concern because after the contractor collected the money , he failed to complete his work at the school.

They told Sowetanthat they only saw the contractor when they visited his offices in Polokwane to ask him to come and complete his work.

"We would like the government to investigate the link between the school principal and the contractor because it looks like they are involved in irregularities," the parents said.

Sebopetsa declined to comment yesterday and referred all questions to the department.

Education department spokes-person Ndo Mangala could not be reached for comment.
