With the 2010 World Cup gradually approaching, more communities are beginning to reap the rewards of legacy projects as a result of the event.
The latest community to score is that of Sharpeville in Sedibeng, whose refurbished George Thabe Stadium will be used for the inaugural Four Nations under-17 tournament this weekend.
The four countries participating are the hosts South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho.
Safa, Sedibeng Municipality and the Gauteng department of sports, arts, culture and recreation are jointly involved in the event.
Other stadiums rebuilt and upgraded in Gauteng include Orlando (Soweto), Super Stadium (Atteridgeville), HM Pitje (Mamelodi), Sinaba (Daveyton) and Katlehong.
George Thabe has been upgraded by the Gauteng provincial government as one of the legacy projects of the World Cup in the province.
It will be the first time that the stadium will be used after the completion of the upgrading process.
It is named after the late George Thabe, the former president of the South African National Football Association and chairman of the now defunct Vaal Professionals.
The weekend's Four Nations Tournament, which is part of the Human Rights Day celebrations, will start on Friday and end on Sunday.
Sipho Nkumane, tournament coordinator, said: "We are excited that George Thabe Stadium has been upgraded and the community of Sharpeville will also be able to watch international soccer in their own back yard.
"It is also an opportunity for Sedibeng to showcase some of the things that will be offered to thousands of tourists who will be coming to our country in 2010."
SuperSport United development coach Solly Luvhengo has been appointed coach of Majimbos after Teboho Moloi's contract expired.
Majimbos begin their campaign at 12.30pm tomorrow with a game against Lesotho, while Botswana and Swaziland battle it out at 3.30pm.
