Writers for stage and film have an opportunity to sharpen their skills through the Soweto Writers Centre.
All aspirant actors who wish to register for the acting and stage development course are also invited to attend an open day and workshop on Sunday, March 15, at No 2, corner President and Miriam Makeba streets, Newtown, Johannesburg, from 9am.
The three-months skills training programme is designed to introduce beginner actors to theatre and screen acting.
The course will include performance skills, script reading, voice, movement, self-discipline and communications skills.
Yule Masiteng, the seasoned television actor and businessman, will be part of the panel who will be presenting at the course. Masiteng has been involved in theatre and television acting for the past two decades.
Students who complete the basic acting course will be enrolled at the Actors Campus, to be launched in Soweto next year.
Other opportunities include the upcoming Project 10 Soweto Theatre Festival, taking place from June 14 to June 28.
The centre is deeply concerned about the recycling of stage and television actors.
The centre's Basil Dube said: "Audiences are forced to watch the same, old, tired and boring actors each time a new production is introduced.
"We need to train and introduce new voices and professionally-trained actors. Actors' agents do not have the time to provide intensive training.
"They are not training institutions and this is exactly where we come in. As the Soweto Writers Centre, we will soon be setting up our own management agency in Soweto to create better opportunities for our graduates, particularly those who have been denied access to this promising industry" said Dube.
Dube added that they recognise the brilliant work carried out by some of the country's leading actors, who include Mary Twala, Sello Maake ka-Ncube, Connie Chiume, Connie Ferguson, Nambitha Mpumlwana, Temba Ndaba, Owen Sejake, Rapulana Seiphemo and Pat Shai.
