Political parties that attended the signing of the Independent Electoral Commission code of conduct in Midrand complained about intimidation and the impartiality of electoral officers.

IFP president Mangosuthu Buthelezi yesterday slammed what he said was the abuse of state resources and intimidation.

P A C leader Letlapa Mphahlele committed his party to peaceful elections.

He said parties should refrain from threatening pensioners in villages that their grants would be removed should they support other parties other than the governing ANC.

DA's Joe Seremane said political parties should conduct themselves in line with what they said.

ANC president Jacob Zuma said the robust debate among political parties served to enrich and deepen democracy. He said the ANC was confident of peaceful elections.
