Mbongeni Ngema's new musical, the Lion of the East: Gert Sibande, has once again been plunged into controversy.
This time, the family of the leader of the "Potato Boycott" of the 1950s has been granted a court order stopping the play from being staged until they have seen its script.
The play was supposed to have its preview on Tuesday, but was prevented from doing so after Leroy Musa Nsibande, the son of the late unionist, was granted a court order against the government of Mpumalanga.
The court order was served on Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla and MEC for culture, sport and recreation Dina Pule.
