One robber was shot dead and another wounded during a robbery yesterday in Norwood, Johannesburg.

Superintendent Eugene Opperman said three armed men entered the Ilanga supermarket at midday.

"Passing police saw the robbery. The robbers fired shots at the police and a constable was shot in the arm," he said.

Police returned fire and one robber was shot dead, another wounded and a third arrested. Cases of armed robbery and attempted murder were being investigated. - Sapa
