PARIS - Opposition leader Andry Rajoelina locked in a power struggle with Madagascar's President Marc Ravalomanana, has taken refuge in the French ambassador's residence in Antananarivo, a diplomat said.

"He has been at the residence since Friday night, following a request from the international community and the UN mediator," the diplomat said yesterday, adding that the move had been agreed with Ravalomanana.

Rajoelina, pictured, who has been in hiding since security forces tried to arrest him last week, was to be moved yesterday to a bishop's palace in the capital, the diplomat added. - Sapa-AFP
