Taxpayers may have been dismayed this week at having to fork out thousands of rands in damages to two men because of the rogue actions of two policemen.

A Pretoria magistrate ordered the Minister of Safety and Security to pay R120 000 - excluding legal fees - to the two men who were mauled by dogs set on them by two policemen in 2003.

That the two officers have since resigned in disgrace must serve as a lesson to others to desist from behaviour that undermines the integrity of the police force.
