Orlando Pirates have submitted a letter to the Premier Soccer League requesting that their Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs be postponed to May 2.
Southern Africa's big soccer clash is scheduled to take place at Ellis Park Stadium on April 18 at 4pm, but the venue has already been booked for another non-sporting event.
Pirates are hosting the second round after Chiefs took the first one to Mmabatho Stadium in November where Bucs won the game 2-0.
Loftus Stadium - used by Chiefs for their home games - was being upgraded for the Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup.
Sowetan has learnt that Pirates' administration executive Floyd Mbele submitted the letter to PSL general manager Ace Ncobo's office yesterday.
Ncobo said: "All that I can tell you is that I have indeed received a request of some sort for changes to that fixture."
Mbele was not available for comment.
The Soweto derby is one of the Premiership A-category games that will be run by the Local Organising Committee. This will be part of their preparations for the Confederations Cup, taking place from June 14 to 28, and the 2010 World Cup.
Some of the issues that the LOC staff and volunteers will exposed to during those games include security, protocol, assisting in the media lounge and logistics.
All the four Confederations Cup host cities have already started sending out letters to the 4 000 people whose applications to serve as volunteers were successful.
Training will start in the next two weeks.
