Following a successful run at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg last year, Jayson King's musical tribute show, The Great Pretenders, heads for the State Theatre in Pretoria.
The show opens on March 17 and closes on March 28. Great Pretenderswill blow your mind with great classic songs of the 20th century.
The show has been running for the past 15 years at the Sound Stage in Midrand and at Gold Reef City's Globe Theatre.
Produced and directed by entertainer Jayson King, The Great Pretenders salutes timeless singers such as Chuck Berry, Tom Jones, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and Julio Iglesias.
King, 64, remains on top of his game as Mr Showbiz. He will be joined on stage by several exceptional singing talents, lending their considerable vocal abilities to an array of genres.
With 2009 being the 50th anniversary of Motown, there will be a selection of more songs from this era by singers such as Christine Mathee and Lecrecia Masemola.
The group has top singers who have benefited from the success of the production such as Carol Leigh, Dennis Maart and Jacques Hector-Smith.
Maart has been with the show since its inception in 1993, while Hector-Smith started out in Taliep Petersen and David Kramer's District Six show.
Included in the bill is veteran entertainer King, a survivor of the 1960s District Six days, who brings echoes of that era to the show.
As always, the show boasts great music and spectacular costumes, with their magical vocal styles and dynamic interpretations of classic hits from yesteryear.
King, a highly professional entertainer, is the host of the show. He sings in French, Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Zulu and Hindi.
