The IFP says it is considering taking the ANC-led KwaZulu-Natal government to court for failing to make public the details of a forensic audit report in the department of Agriculture and Environmental affairs.
The party has instructed its lawyers to lodge the papers over the next few days.
The provincial department of agriculture made headlines in 2007 when it was established that it had overspent its budget by a staggering R125million, of which R80million was unaccounted for.
This resulted in its former head, Jabulani Mjwara, and the then financial chief officer, Petros Mahlangu, resigning before a disciplinary hearing was instituted.
IFP national chairperson, Zanele Magwaza-Msibi said yesterday that after exhausting all channels available to them as the official opposition to have the forensic audit report tabled and debated, they have decided to take the matter to court.
The MEC for finance and economic development Zweli Mkhize said yesterday that he was surprised that the IFP is intending to take the provincial government to court.
Mkhize said the finance portfolio committee in the provincial legislature has been kept abreast of developments on the forensic reports on various issues at Ithala, and none of these reports were finalised.
