Death has struck twice in one week at the famed Eyethu Boxing Gym of Mzimase Mnguni in East London.
Mnguni, the accomplished boxing manager and trainer the at his gym, Vuyani Bungu, have lost their mothers. They both died last week of natural causes.
Nonyaniso Mnguni was 87 years old.
Mnguni produced more world champions in credible organisations than any other boxing mentor locally.
His younger brother, Sihle Mnguni, manages the career of former South African and WBC International lightweight champion, Ali "Rush Hour" Funeka.
Mzimase said his mother will be buried on Saturday.
Meanwhile Bungu's mother, Lillian Bungu, succumbed to a long illness last Tuesday.
Attempts to get funeral details from Bungu drew a blank.
"The Beast" Bungu hones the skills of young fighters at Mnguni's gym. A former paid fighter, Bungu held the IBF junior featherweight belt for five years, chalking up 13 defences.
Bungu remains the only local world champion ever to have defended his world belt 13 times.
Promoter Rodney Berman, who guided Bungu's illustrious career until it ended in 2005, was at a loss for words.
"I knew about Mzi's mother. I spoke to him last week.
"His pain is my pain," Berman said.
