The Bulls kept their log leadership intact when they narrowly beat the Stormers 14-10 in an exciting Super 14 game before a capacity crowd at Loftus on Saturday.
But it was not easy passage for the hosts as they had to survive a second half onslaught from the visitors who unfortunately left it too late.
Bulls coach Frans Ludeke should be a worried man ahead of their tour Down Under in two weeks. His team failed to rectify the mistakes they committed against the Lions last week that almost saw them go down there too.
In that game, the Bulls led 16-0 at interval at a soggy Ellis Park Stadium but allowed the Lions to stage a late come back in the second half to score nine points without reply.
On Saturday in Pretoria, the Bulls looked comfortable at 14-3 through flyhalf Morne Steyn's two penalties and a drop goal and centre Wynand Olivier's try in the 55th minute.
As the game progressed the home side went to sleep and were punished when the Stormers' Deon Fourie scored a try and Peter Grant converted while Willem de Waal's drop goal reduced the gap to 14-10.
The Stormers continued to harass the Bulls with crunching tackles and were also solid in the rucks.
No. 8 Luke Watson, who played a blinder for the Stormers, showed composure in kicking and distributing the ball despite being booed by the crowd.
