Former Kaizer Chiefs star Doctor Khumalo appeared in the Roodepoort magistrate's court on drunk and reckless driving charges.

Khumalo appeared briefly before magistrate Susan du Pisanie yesterday.

Court papers say Khumalo was three times over the limit at 0,17g/100ml when he was involved in an accident on the N1 before the Maraisburg off-ramp in May last year. The legal limit is 0,05g/100ml.

Khumalo's black BMW collided with a taxi carrying three passengers, one of them a pregnant woman.

He is facing charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol and reckless, negligent driving.

Among the people who attended court was taxi owner Perry Kgosoane, whose vehicle collided with Khumalo's car. Kgosoane came with taxi driver William Sanyane who escaped with minor injuries.

The case was postponed to March 23 for prosecutor Vincent Mochabela to obtain the docket.
