SABC2 has bought one of the most popular tv drama series.

The channel has bought the rights to flight M-Net's sizzling series Jacob's Cross, to be flighted from April 2.

Zandile Nkonyeni, publicity manager for SABC2, said yesterday that they approached DStv because they felt the drama would be suitable for their viewers.

"Jacob's Cross is a great show that has talented actors. We will flight the first series next month."

It boasts a star-studded cast that includes Hlomla Dandala, Nandi Nyembe, Moky Makura, Anthony Bishop, Esmeralda Bihl, Akin Omotoso, Vusi Kunene and Mmabatho Montsho.

The series premiered on DStv's M-Net Series channel in January 2007. It was then aired on M-Net.

Set in South Africa and Nigeria, the story centres around businessman Jacob Makhubu and his quest to build the next great South African empire.

The people in Makhubu's world are all driven by a shared history of colonisation and a desire to tap into the wealth of Africa while being divided by feuds over who the rightful owners of the resources are, how they should be exploited and who should benefit.
